We are animal lovers too and our children have been brought up around animals learning how to respect and care for them responsibly. I ask parents to respect that this is our home and we do share it with some of our pets!
We have 3 Cocker Spaniels Freya, Holly and Zac. The dogs are (mostly!) well-behaved show dogs and are fully vet checked, wormed, vaccinated and absolutely love children. Showing and breeding Cocker Spaniels is my hobby and we occasionally do have puppies at home. The dogs are kept separate from the children and are not allowed to roam freely amongst them. With parent's permission children have supervised access to the dogs which may include petting the puppies or going for a walk together but this is optional.
The dogs have access to a separate area in the garden. Please be assured that as much as I love and trust my animals, I would NEVER leave them unattended with any child and take my responsibility very seriously.
One of my hobbies is showing my dogs so they are always kept in 5 star condition and are bathed and groomed regularly. They are also routinely treated for fleas, worms and other parasites. They are also used to being handled by judges at shows and have a relaxed attitude to all people but they do bark when strangers enter the house. Children are allowed to pet the animals whilst supervised providing they wash their hands afterwards and occasionally one of the dogs may join us on a walk.
I do occasionally breed from my dogs and sometimes the children have experienced watching puppies being cared for and are able to watch them grow and develop. I take hygiene very seriously and children are taught about safety around animals and the importance of hand washing.
